Iran defense chief will visit Azerbaijan for military talks

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami plans to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan to improve cooperation with Baku, particularly in defense and military areas.

Heading a delegation, Hatami will set off for Baku at the official invitation of Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Lieutenant General Zakir Hasanov.

He is scheduled to hold talks with high-ranking political and defense officials of Azerbaijan on issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen military cooperation as well as leading regional and international developments.

The first meeting of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Defense Commission was held in Baku on in October 2017 with the participation of a high-ranking delegation from Iran’s Defense Ministry.

The session was aimed at exchanging views about avenues for strengthening joint cooperation in the defense and military sectors.

Heading a high-ranking defense and military delegation, Hasanov paid a visit to Tehran in April 2017 for an official visit at the invitation of former Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.

The Azeri defense chief met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
