Iranian karatekas win six medals at Karate 1 - Premier League Dubai

Iranian karate practitioners have shown fine punching, knee strikes as well as open-hand techniques at the 2018 Karate 1-Premier League Dubai, and received six medals at the prestigious event.

On Sunday, Ali Fadakar took part in the men’s kumite minus 84-kigram competitions at al-Wasl club, and lost to Egyptian opponent Ahmed Elmasry 1-5 in the final contest, and took the silver.

Moreover, Hamideh Abbasali claimed a bronze medal in the women’s kumite over 65-kilogram division.

The Iranian outfit, comprising Fatemeh Afshar, Haniyeh Azizi and Ghazaleh Movaqarnia, could also bag a bronze medal in the women’s team kata competitions.

Ali Asghr Asiabari overcame his Turkish opponent Erman Eltemur 5-3 in the bronze medal contest of the men’s kumite minus 75-kilogram class as well.

Additionally, Amir Reza Mirzaei overpowered Kazakhstan’s Didar Amir Ali 7-1 for a third-spot finish in the men’s kumite minus 67-kilogram category.

In the men’s individual kata section, Abolfazl Shahrjerdi received the bronze after he beat Morocco’s Mohammed al-Hani 3-2.

The 2018 Karate 1-Premier League Dubai started in the United Arab Emirates on February 16, and finished on February 18.

The tournament brought together some male and female 726 athletes represented 75 countries, namely Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Spain and Turkey.
