Iran-India ties

Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, has wrapped up his three-day visit to India. On the last day of his trip, Rouhani and India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, discussed key areas of bilateral ties with a focus on trade and mainly developments in the Iranian southeastern port of Chabahar. The two countries also signed 15 agreements of mutual cooperation

Saudi war on Yemen

More deaths and destruction in Yemen as Saudi Arabia continues to bomb its southern neighbor.

In a fresh wave of attacks, Saudi warplanes targeted the district of Aqiq in Sa’ada province, killing at least 18 people, including women and children. A number of medics attending the victims were also killed in the airstrikes. The deaths bring to 20, the number of people killed in Saturday airstrikes. Nearly 14-thousand people have lost their lives since the start of the Saudi aggression against Yemen in March 2015.

Florida protest

Thousands of people have gathered at an anti-gun rally in the US city of Fort Lauderdale in the state of Florida where 17 students were shot dead at a high school on Wednesday.

Student survivors of the Parkland school - where the shooting took place - pleaded with lawmakers to change the US gun laws. They urged people to get out and protest, saying thoughts and prayers were not enough anymore. The shooting at the Florida high school is prompting calls for school protests around the US. The angry protesters also condemned US President Donald Trump over his ties to the National Rifle Association.

Iran plane crash

An Iranian passenger plane has crashed in the country’s southwest, killing all 66 people on board.

The ATR-72, twin-engine turboprop was operated by Iran Aseman airlines. It was en route from the capital Tehran to the southwestern city of Yasuj when it vanished off radar screens and went down near the mountainous town of Semirom. Airline officials say the aircraft smashed into the mountains. Emergency workers have been dispatched to the crash site, but the cause of the incident is not known yet.

Israel's attack on Gaza

An Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip has left two Palestinian teenagers dead.

Medical officials in the besieged enclave have confirmed the death of the 17-year-old boys, who got killed by Israeli army fire in southern Gaza. The Israeli military claims that the troops fired warning shots at a group of people approaching their outpost in a suspicious way. The fatalities follow a flare-up of violence with Israeli warplanes, pounding 18 targets in the Gaza Strip. The airstrikes have wounded several Palestinians. Israel carried out the raids after an explosive device hurt several soldiers near the buffer zone.

South China Sea tensions

The United States has stoked fresh tensions over the South China Sea, saying its forces will continue patrolling near China’s artificial islands.

A US Navy officer told the Associated Press that American forces are undeterred by Beijing's military buildup in the disputed waters. Lieutenant Commander, Tim Hawkins stressed that international law allows US warplanes and navy to operate in the area. China claims the South China Sea almost in its entirety and has, time and again, slammed the US naval and air patrols. In January, Beijing accused Washington of trespassing when guided missile destroyer USS Hopper sailed near the Chinese-controlled islands. China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei have long contested ownership of the South China Sea.
