Iran’s Team Melli moves up one spot in new FIFA rankings

The Iran men’s national soccer team, domestically known as Team Melli, has climbed one position in the latest edition of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings to land in the 33rd spot in the world.

According to the latest monthly rankings which were released by the world’s soccer governing body on Thursday, the Iranian team maintained its position as the best Asian soccer team with 790 points.

Other Asian teams include Australia, which has collected 737 points to remain unchanged in the 36th slot.

 The Australian national soccer team, officially nicknamed the Socceroos, is followed by Japan, which garnered 539 points to climb up one position and occupy the 55th spot.

Germany stays top of the FIFA world rankings, having collected 1,602 points.

The other top four teams remain unchanged in a row with Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium in the second to fifth places. They notched up 1,484, 1,358, 1,348 and 1,325 points respectively.
