Iranians prevailed over sanctions, propaganda: Analyst

Scott Rickard, 39th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran

The recent revolution rallies across Iran showed that decades of economic pressure and propaganda have had no effect on Iranian people, says an American analyst.

Scott Rickard, an Orlando-based former intelligence linguist, made the remarks in an interview on Sunday, where he discussed the 39th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which came just weeks after scattered riots hit several cities and towns.

Each year on the 22nd of the month of Bahman on the Persian calendar, Iranians turn out to renew their allegiance to the Islamic establishment and Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

People from all walks of life rally in different cities and towns to celebrate the nation’s victory that put an end to the monarchical rule of the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

This year’s rallies came after US President Donald Trump cheered the rioters in a volley of tweets which angered many Iranians who view the American leader's entreaties as "hypocritical" after he called Iran a "terrorist nation."

“Iran has done a fantastic job in celebrating their independence from Western influence and Western puppets,” Rickard said Sunday.

The Pahlavi regime “basically stood for Western dominance of the Iranian people” and put “prosperous” Iran under the “despotic rule” of the West, Rickard added.

The analyst said the mainstream media in the West have long been busy spewing “untruthful” information about Iran in order to stir public opinion in the Persian Gulf region as well as Europe and other parts of the world.

But the turnout in this year’s revolution celebrations showed that Iran has endured all the propaganda and the economic sanctions that the West has imposed against it, Rickard noted.

“Once again you see in Western media as well as in Persian Gulf, specifically Saudi and obviously other pro-Western governments in the region, they constantly were saying things there will be small turnout,” he said.

“Iran has shown tremendous patience and tremendous resilience… in the incredible aftermath of economic sanctions” the no other country has endured, he continued.

However, Rickard predicted that the animosity towards Iran would continue by the US, the UK and their regional allies Saudi Arabia and Israel.
