Iranian male and female ice climbers have shown great displays of physical skills and strength during the 2018 Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup, and won the crown in Asia.

On Sunday and the final day of the competitions in South Korea’s eastern county of Cheongsong, the Islamic Republic of Iran garnered 360 points and stood above South Korea. Kazakhstan finished in the third spot.

Iranian female ice climber Zaynab Kobra Mousavi participated in the women’s speed contests, and ranked first and was awarded the gold medal.

Nasrin Abdulrahimi, also from Iran, landed in the second position of the chart.

Shabnam Assadi, another Iranian ice climber, stood third and had to settle with the bronze.

Additionally, Mohsen Beheshti stole the show in the men’s speed event, and received the gold medal.

Representatives from Mongolia landed in the second and third places, and claimed the silver and bronze medals.

Mohammad Reza Safdarian also took the bronze medal in the men’s lead competitions.

The 2018 UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup started on February 9, and finished on February 11.

It was held in men’s lead, women’s lead, men’s speed and women’s speed sections.

Speed climbing is a race in its purest form. Two contestants face each other while moving up the ice in this disciple, and the faster climber wins.

Lead climbing, on the other hand, emphasizes on strength and techniques. Climbers go up the ice alone and try to reach a specific end point within a given amount of time.

To practice the sport at the highest level of competition, it takes athletes with strategic insight, power, precision and full commitment.
