Turkey's offensive against Kurdish forces in Syria

Turkey has launched a fresh operation against Kurdish forces on the other side of the border with Syria. The offensive has drawn a strong reaction from the Syrian government. 'Pence not welcome '

The Palestinian political groups of Fatah and Hamas have voiced anger over the US vice president’s four-day tour of the Middle East.

Hamas’s spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said there is no justification to receive the US official. Fatah's spokesman, Osama Qawasmi stated that  “Mike Pence's visit to the region is totally unwelcome since he is a blind supporter of Israel." He called on the Arab countries not to receive Pence in response to the U-S recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital. The US vice president has arrived in Jordan after holding talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo. After the meeting, Pence told reporters that President Sisi described his objection to US President Donald Trump’s decision regarding al-Quds.

The Afghan interior ministry says an attack on Kabul’s Intercontinental Hotel that left at least six people, including a foreigner, dead is now over.

He said 153 people, including more than 40 foreigners, were rescued after the gunmen stormed and seiged the building. A group of four gunmen were reportedly involved in a coordinated assault. No group has yet taken responsibility for the attack which comes just days after the US embassy issued a warning of possible attacks on hotels in Kabul.
