The United States military presence around the globe and in particular in Syria is not for security and stability, rather it is part of a scheme to spread American influence, says a commentator.

The United States’ interest is in maintaining a presence of American troops in any spots around the globe, at a time when the US is facing a “decompensation of a dying empire,” David Yaghoubian, professor at the California State University, told Press TV on Saturday.

The declining American power “cannot admit that it has been defeated anywhere and therefore doubles down on its actions and activities to spread its influence,” he noted.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has lashed out at the US for undermining the territorial integrity of Syria through efforts to form “alternative bodies of authority” across the Middle Eastern country.
