The goalkeeper for Iranian professional football club Esteghlal Tehran has managed to keep the ball away from his goalpost for 845 minutes, and broke the consecutive clean sheets record in the history of the Persian Gulf Pro League, formerly known as the Iran Pro League.

Seyyed Hossein Hosseini set the record in the 56th minute of the match between Esteghlal Tehran and Saipa Football Club at the Azadi Stadium in western Tehran on Friday evening. The game ended in a one-all draw.

Hosseini improved his previous record of 788 minutes, which he established after the 0-0 draw between Esteghlal and Tractor Sazi on January 5.

Earlier, Persepolis goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, 25, kept his goal closed for 721 minutes until he received a goal in the 88th minute of the match against Foolad Khuzestan Football Club on December 24, 2017.

The Persian Gulf Pro League is the highest division of professional football in Iran, and was founded in 2001.

Each year, the top finishing team in the Persian Gulf Pro League becomes the Iranian football champion, and the lowest finishing teams are relegated to Azadegan League.
