A former member of the national Iranian junior Greco-Roman wrestling team has lost his battle against bone and lung cancers, and departed this life at the age of 19.

Hossein Ghanbarzadeh died at a hospital in the northern Iranian city of Babol, located 212 kilometers (131 miles) northeast of the capital Tehran, on Wednesday morning.

Ghanbarzadeh won the title in the 2013 Mazandaran junior Greco-roman wrestling competitions.

He finished second overall in Iran’s national junior Greco-roman wrestling contests the following year.

Ghanbarzadeh had to bid farewell to his sportive career nearly two years ago, after he was diagnosed with bone and lung cancers.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation has extended its condolences to Ghanbarzadeh’s bereaved family in a message.
