Anti- Trump parents upset over Ivanka Trump's surprise school visit in Connecticut
An unannounced visit by US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, has upset parents of students at a high school in the state of Connecticut, with some pulling their kids from class.
Parents said they were troubled for not being told in advance that Trump’s daughter, who is also a senior White House adviser, was paying a visit to Norwalk Early College Academy at Norwalk High School on Monday.
Some parents were able to pull their kids from class before the visit, according to the report.
The first daughter and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty spoke with a handful of students at the academy.
Karey Fitzgerald, a Norwalk parent, told local media she thinks parents should have had the choice of whether to send their child to school when Ivanka Trump was there.
An alumna of the academy, Monica Mercuri, also disapproved of Ivanka's visit to the school
"Hope the diversity of our students and our large immigrant population doesn't scare her away!" she tweeted.
Ivanka worked for her billionaire father's company before Trump was elected president and is now an unpaid White House adviser. She has been accused in the US of benefiting from nepotism.
Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was also appointed as a senior White House adviser by the president. Neither have previous government experience.
Trump has faced a furious backlash from political opponents and ethics experts for placing his children in positions of power.
