Iran finishes third at FIDE World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad 2017

The national Iranian chess squad has pulled off an outstanding victory at the  Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad 2017 in India, and stood in the third place overall at the prestigious international event.

The Iranian outfit, consisting of Seyyed Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei, Alireza Firouzja, Arian Gholami, Mahdi Gholami and Anousha Mahdian, recorded a 4-0 win over the Belarusian team at the Karnavati Club in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.

Russia stood on top of the podium winning the gold medal and 1,250 euros.

While host India took the silver and 1,000 euros, Iran claimed the bronze medal as well as 800 euros.

The FIDE World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad 2017 started on December 10, and finished on December 19, 2017.

Thirty teams from twenty-five countries had taken part at the tournament.
