Violent clashes erupt in Buenos Aires over pension reform

Argentina’s National Congress went ahead with controversial pension reforms as police and protesters clashed outside the Buenos Aires Parliament on Monday.

Masked protesters threw rocks and tried to tear down metal barriers, while police retaliated with water cannon and tear gas.

President Mauricio Macri swept to power with a mandate to lift currency controls and reform Argentina’s pension system.
