US policy of global domination provokes resistance from China, Russia: Analyst

China On Edge as US Aircraft Carrier Exercises in South China Sea

The American policy of achieving global domination has provoked resistance from other world powers namely Russia and China, according to James Jatras, a former American Senate foreign policy adviser.

On Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump is scheduled to present a new national security strategy that envisions a world in which the United States confronts China and Russia – the two powers which are challenging American global hegemony.

Trump’s strategy, according to senior administration officials who offered a preview Sunday, outlines a detailed plan to push back against China’s global economic ambitions, but does not say much about how Russia will be confronted, according to The New York Times.

“The new national security strategy being announced by the Trump administration today doesn’t seem all that new in many respects,” Jatras told Press TV.

“There are some things that may be good in terms of putting the national interest and the security of American territory first which would be unusual given the emphasis on the power projection that American policy has concentrated on for the last few decades,” he stated.

“But it really is an establishment status quo announcement, and the notion that somehow Russia and China are rising powers challenging the United States I think is putting things rather backwards," the analyst said. "Given the tendency of American policy of the last quarter century to try to achieve global domination, it is only natural that this provokes response from other powers namely Russia and China.”

“And that notion that somehow the United States has the preeminent domination of the globe, that is simply the natural order of things, and it’s somehow the fault of other powers for resisting that, I think it’s quite backwards,” he noted.

“But frankly I don’t expect much out of this. It was written by a bunch of retreads from the Bush administration and I don’t have very high expectations,” Jatras concluded.
