Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks on Palestine

Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the expected declaration of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital shows the desperation and frustration of those behind the scheme. Ayatollah Khamenei made the comment in a meeting with senior Iranian officials, ambassadors of Islamic countries and participants at the international Islamic unity conference in Tehran. The Leader said Washington’s hands are tied and that it cannot advance its objectives when it comes to the issue of Palestine. The Leader noted that the US seeks to wage wars in the Middle East to ensure the security of the Israeli regime. Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted that Washington and Tel Aviv as well as their cronies are lining up against the Islamic community, but said that victory belongs to Muslims. He said Palestine will be liberated, and the Palestinian nation will finally emerge victorious.

Palestinian rage

Palestinians warn against the consequences of US President Donald Trump's expected decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital. The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, said the US move would harm Israel and make the regime regret it. Meanwhile, Palestinian factions have announced three days of protests across the West Bank over Trump’s measure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that heightened security measures are in place in the occupied territories ahead of the demonstrations. Earlier, senior US government officials said Trump would announce his recognition of al-Quds as Israel’s capital later on Wednesday. They said the president would also direct officials to begin the process of relocating the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds.

Saudi bombardment

Saudi Arabia has intensified its aerial campaign against Yemen after the sudden death of former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saudi warplanes have carried out several raids on the capital Sana’a and areas in three northern provinces. Local media say Saleh's residence and other houses of his family members have been the Saudi targets of attacks in Sana’a. There were no immediate words on casualties. Saleh was killed on Monday when an RPG rocket hit his car as he was fleeing clashes between his supporters and Ansarullah fighters in the capital. He was once an ally of Houthis but broke away from them. According to the Ansarullah leader, Saleh was killed because he had turned a traitor.

Trump decision on al-Quds

Global reactions are pouring in against the US president’s decision on Jerusalem al-Quds. People in the besieged Gaza Strip also take to the streets, slamming the move.

Korean Peninsula tensions

China has called for restraint as tensions escalate on the Korean Peninsula amid ongoing joint US-South Korea aerial war games there. The Chinese Foreign Ministry made the call after the US flew its nuclear-capable bombers in the region as part of the air drills with the South. Over 200 fighter jets, including stealth bombers are taking part in the maneuvers, which are considered a show of force against North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. Pyongyang has already slammed the exercises, describing them as an all-out provocation. Tensions have increased in the region since the North successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile. The US and its allies have called on North Korea to curb its controversial programs. But Pyongyang says it will not relinquish its nuclear deterrence and missile capability unless Washington and its allies stop their hostile policies toward the country.

Putin presidential bid

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he’ll seek re-election in the country’s presidential vote next year. Putin made the announcement in a car manufacturing company in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. Earlier in the day, the Russian leader had refused to confirm his candidacy for the March election while addressing a big crowd of youth in Moscow. 65-year-old Vladimir Putin has been in power either as president or prime minister since 2000. His approval rating now is more than 80 percent. He enjoys widespread support among blue-color workers and state employees.
