Abbas to address Trump's Israeli embassy decision on live TV
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is set to deliver a televised speech after US President Donald Trump's highly-anticipated announcement later on Wednesday on the relocation of the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem al-Quds.
A Palestinian official told the media on Wednesday that the address was going to be a direct answer to Trump's possible recognition of the city as Israel's capital.
"The president (Abbas) will first listen to President Trump's speech, and will then give a response," the unnamed official told Reuters, adding that the remarks would be broadcast on Palestine TV.
Abbas has already warned his American counterpart against the "dangerous" move, threatening to cut ties with Washington on all levels.
Trump is likely to authorize the relocation in a live address on 1 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT), multiple reports suggest, citing unnamed US officials.
Since the US Congress ruled in 1995 that the embassy be relocated from Tel Aviv, every president has deferred the troublesome measure by signing a six-month waiver included in the bill.
Trump signed his own first waiver in June, drawing fire from Israel by backtracking on one of his key campaign promises.
The entire Jerusalem al-Quds is currently under Israel’s control, while the regime also claims the city’s eastern part, which hosts the third holiest Muslim site.
The city, which Palestinians want as the capital of their future state, has been designated as “occupied” under international law since the 1967 Arab War.

In a rare show of unity against the Tel Aviv regime, 151 countries voted on Thursday to adopt a resolution that denounced Israel as the “occupying power” of the city, which is holy to Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike.
Palestinians have warned that the potential relocation would fuel strong reaction in the region and deliver a death blow to any prospect of resolving the Israeli- Palestinian conflict.
