Time magazine names #MeToo movement as "person of the year."

Time magazine has named the social movement aimed at raising awareness about sexual harassment and assault, epitomized by the #MeToo social media hashtag, as the most influential "person" in 2017.

Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal told NBC's "Today" program on Wednesday that the "Me Too" movement was the fastest moving social change the magazine had seen in decades and referred to the hundreds of women and some men who came forward with their allegations of sexual misconduct as "the silence breakers."

In October, celebrities and women around the world took to Twitter to denounce sexual harassment and assault with the hashtag #metoo, following the actress Alyssa Milano's call for action.
