Trump losing control to foreign policy hawks who can start new war: Analyst

Reports from within the White House that say Donald Trump is becoming more and more delusional only compound the problem that the US president is losing control to foreign policy hawks who can launch a war to distract attention from the chaos gripping the administration, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist. 

On Friday, former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his links with Russia and agreed to work with prosecutors in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between Trump's election campaign team and Russia during last year's presidential election.

The agreement demands that Flynn cooperate with federal, state or even local investigators in any way Mueller's office might need, according to a document filed in court on Friday.

Trump told reporters on Saturday that there was “absolutely no collusion” between his presidential campaign and the Russian government.

“There are so many ways in which the Flynn conviction could go and likely in a way no one expects. What he pled to was inconsequential if it all happened between the time of the election and inauguration,” Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, told Press TV on Saturday.

Donald Trump says is "not worried" about Flynn's plea deal, because there was "absolutely no collusion" with Russia.

“Diplomacy, after all, requires talking to others about policy. If there were actual agreements to do something in exchange for something else, then perhaps the waters get muddier. But asking Russia to hold off on reacting to sanctions is common sense,” he added.

“Flynn did not do what Kissinger or Secretary [James] Baker had done: continued the Vietnam War to help Nixon get elected or to put off releasing the hostages in Iran in order for Reagan to succeed against Carter. Kissinger’s actions resulted in tens of thousands of more deaths and Baker extended an uncertainty. Flynn’s charge doesn’t even rate,” the analyst said.

“What is probable is that Mueller had a lot to work with, including indicting Flynn’s son, on such charges as conspiracy to kidnap a Turkish national living in Pennsylvania to be sent back to Turkey for likely execution. Flynn could have been included in that as well as so many other charges that could land him in jail for life.  As Flynn said in his statement, he was doing this for family and country,” he noted.

“With reports coming from inside the White House that Trump is becoming more and more delusional and losing control to hawks in the foreign policy establishment, the time is ripe for a war to distract. Once in it, ideas of impeachment, trials, even resignation would be pushed aside until after our created enemies are vanquished,” the commentator said.

“But even with a resignation, we’d be left with Pence who is far more dangerous and a new foreign policy team whose grasp on reality is beyond belief and like former Secretary of State Clinton, sees no role in diplomacy. Senator Cotton of Arkansas, potential CIA chief to replace Mike Pompeo, is a raving lunatic who thinks ISIS is working with Mexican drug lords and invading Arkansas,” Hoenig observed.

“How Trump reacts is for the Las Vegas odds makers because he has defied conventional political analysis from Day 1,” he concluded.
