Iran will stand against attempts to form another terror outfit: Top commander

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri

Iran’s top military commander has lauded the eradication of Daesh from Iraq and Syria, saying Iranian Armed Forces are fully ready to counter enemy plots and any attempts to create another similar terror outfit.

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks in a congratulatory message to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday.

Baqeri said “although the fall of Daesh heralds the collapse of the sinister dominance of the US and its regional and extra-regional allies” but the guidelines of the Leader, who has called for vigilance in the face of enemy plots, should be taken into serious consideration.

The senior military official said Iranian Armed Forces would do all in their power and mobilize all their resources to foil enemy attempts to hatch such seditious plots as the creation of Daesh.

‘Daesh has yet to be finished off’

Meanwhile, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has warned that Daesh has yet to be finished off after the terror organization lost all the urban areas under its grip in Iraq and Syria.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari also said Thursday that the victory over Daesh in Iraq and Syria should not be regarded as the total “annihilation” of the Takfiri group, warning that the terror outfit still poses a threat to the Muslim world and the region.

This victory is not about the full elimination of Daesh, but the end of Daesh’s rule, Jafari said, announcing the county’s readiness to counter the Takfiri group’s future terror activities.

Jafari said “Daesh exists in the forms of guerrilla and underground groups in various countries, including Afghanistan; therefore countering their conspiracies is on our agenda.”

Backed by popular groups and Iranian military advisors, armed forces in Iraq and Syria have managed to flush Daesh militants out of their last urban strongholds in both countries, declaring full victory over the notorious terror group.

Jafari further described the terror group’s defeat as a great victory for the region, saying if it were not for the popular forces and volunteer fighters, Syria would have been disintegrated.
