Zimbabwe is facing a political crisis: The military detained the country’s longtime ruler Robert Mugabe in alleged bloodless transition of power. Armed soldiers and armored vehicle have been deployed to the streets of the capital Harare to block access to government buildings. The crisis took another twist after Mugabe made his first public appearance after last week’s coup. It’s widely believed that the embattled president will not give up power. Zimbabwe’s military says negotiations are underway to persuade the president to give up power. The crisis has sparked debates in regional and international media.
