3 injured in car ramming in suburb of Toulouse

Three people have been injured when a car plowed into a group of students near the city of Toulouse in southern France, police say.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, crashed into the crowd outside a high school in the Toulouse suburb of Blagnac on Friday.

The students were identified as Chinese nationals in their twenties.

Police sources also said the attacker, who was known for committing minor offences, was arrested at the scene. There was no immediate confirmation of his identity or motive.

France is still on high alert as sporadic attacks happen across the country by operatives of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group or individuals affiliated with the group. Some 7,000 troops have been deployed in cities and towns as part of the Opération Sentinelle to guard high-risk areas such as transport hubs, tourist sites and religious buildings.

In July 2016, over 80 people were killed and more than 200 others were injured when a Tunisian man rammed a truck into a crowd of people celebrating the French National Day, commonly known as the Bastille Day, in the southern city of Nice.
