Polls about Trump from media, particularly from CNN, are useless: Analyst

Polls regarding Donald Trump from the American media, particularly from CNN, are useless, says Don DeBar, an American journalist and political analyst.

DeBar made the remarks in an interview with Press TV while commenting on a poll which says American voters have less confidence in President Trump a year after his surprise election victory and think he is doing a “poor job” in delivering on his campaign promises.

The CNN/SSRS survey released Wednesday shows that 64 percent of American voters are less confident in Trump’s ability to serve as a president, up from 43 percent immediately after his election victory.

Additionally, 55 percent of the voters think he is doing a poor job keeping the important promises he made prior to the 2016 presidential election, compared to 40 percent who believe otherwise.

There was a 9-percent drop in the number of voters who say Trump can bring the kind of change the country needs, with only 40 percent thinking that he can still pull off the job.

DeBar said he has “absolutely no confidence whatsoever in any poll regarding Trump from the American media, and in particular I have no confidence in any poll from CNN on anything.”

“Just go back a year ago yesterday (November 8, 2016), there wasn’t a single poll from the major polling companies that showed Trump winning the election – not one – and yet he did. People at CNN were so visibly stunned by the fact that he won - after covering the campaign for a year! - that it was clear that they have no idea what goes on on the ground. They walk in with whatever image they think they're either supposed to convey or the one that they carry and that's how they see the world, regardless of what actually happens in front of them,” he stated.

“So, the fact of people’s opinion towards Trump, whatever that is, in my opinion, is not accurately conveyed, can’t be accurately conveyed by anything that CNN is involved in. That said, Trump started out unpopular. The popular vote showed that he lost, and Clinton also had extremely high unfavorable ratings,” the analyst noted.

“All of the institutions of the American government, media, all of them, poll very low in their own polls. CNN on their own polls probably poll lower than Trump, as low as he's polling. There’s a rejection generally of the institutions in the United States by the people - and it makes sense, given the condition of things,” he concluded.
