23rd Press, News Agencies Exhibition opens in Iran

Iran has inaugurated the 23rd edition of its annual Press and News Agencies Exhibition in Tehran, with Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri in attendance.

The opening ceremony took place at the capital’s Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds on Saturday.

“The Press Exhibition is an arena for dialog… It is an opportunity to be used for both explaining the capacities and roles played by the press and print media to the public and authorities, and the enhancement of [existing] capacities,” Jahangiri said at the opening event.

Also attending the event were Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi Amiri, and Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi, as well as a number of media directors and authorities and foreign guests.

Among the foreign guests were journalists from across the world and representatives of foreign media outlets inside the Islamic Republic.

The slogan of the event is “Free Media, Social Coherence, National Advancement.”

The exhibition takes place in an area of 13,000 square meters. It hosts 940 media outlets in 600 pavilions, according to the deputy Secretary of the exhibition, Mehran Abbasi-Anaraki.

The participants include representatives from 100 monthly publications, 54 weeklies, 30 biweekly periodicals, 20 bimonthlies, 52 quarterlies, more than 115 online outlets, 60 newspapers and press institutions, and 70 local media outlets.
