Iran men’s national water polo team has won the ticket for the final showdown of the 6th edition of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy in Malta, after it achieved a deserved win over the Uruguayan side.

On Saturday evening, the Iranian squad, which has so far kept its record unblemished at the sports event, extended its winning streak to five.

The Iranians defeated their South American counterparts 15-7 at the end of a semi-final match staged in the central Maltese town of Gzira.

Iran men’s national water polo team will take on Malta in the final game on Sunday evening.

The 6th edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy opened on October 17, and will conclude on October 22, 2017.

The last edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy, back in 2015, was held in the Iranian capital city of Tehran. Iran won the championship, while Uruguay took silver and Austria settled for bronze.

Uzbekistan won the 2013 edition of the Development Trophy in Kuwait City. Egypt and Saudi Arabia came second and third respectively.
