UN guilty in Myanmar massacre: Analyst

The “UN, the resident coordinator based in Rangoon, is guilty” because the UN is doing nothing tangible to stop the persecution and massacre of the Rohingya Muslims, says a scholar.

“This is a complete failure of the United Nations and global governance structure,” which has not forced Myanmar to halt violating basic rights of the Rohingya minority, who are facing mass murder and genocide, Maung Zarni told Press TV on Tuesday.

In the lack of international response, Myanmar’s government and army attempt “to destroy the entire community just simply because they are Muslim, they are Rohingya and they have valid and legitimate claim on the land that they live,” the scholar said.

Amnesty International has said the new Rohingya deaths in waters off Bangladesh show there is no letup in the “desperate situation” in Myanmar’s Muslim-majority Rakhine State, which has been the subject of a brutal military crackdown since late August.
