Iranian darts player wins gold in WDF World Cup 2017

Female Iranian darts player Deniz Hashtbaran has continued to put on impressive performances and remarkable mental aptitude during the Word Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup 2017 in Japan, and added another gold medal to the Islamic Republic’s tally at the high-status international tournament.

On Saturday, Hashtbaran participated in the final match of girls’ singles division in the city of Kobe, situated about 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Osaka, and defeated Katie Sheldon from the Republic of Ireland 6-4 to earn her top honors.

Earlier, the Iranian darts player had overcome Turkey’s Emine Dursan 5-2 in the semifinal round.

Hashtbaran had beaten Lerena Rietbergen from the Netherlands 4-2 in the quarterfinals.

The outstanding achievement came a day after the Iranian pair of Hashtbaran and Mahshad Avazzadeh defeated Dutch athletes Rietbergen and Layla Brussels 6-5 in the final match of girls’ section, and stood atop the podium. 

The WDF World Cup 2017 started on October 3, and will wrap up on October 7.

The WDF World Cup is a major darts tournament that has been held biennially since 1977.

The tournament has featured men's events since the beginning, while women's events were added in 1983 and youth events in 1999.
