Iranian archer Nemati nominated for September Allianz Athlete of the Month award

Iranian female Paralympic archer Zahra Nemati has been shortlisted for the Allianz Athlete of the Month award for September 2017, thanks to her marvelous display of talent and aptitude at the 2017 World Archery Para Championships in China.

The 32-year-old Iranian sportswoman has so far garnered 97.09 percent of the votes. Dutch para-cyclist Jetze Plat is in second place with 1.5 percent.

Norwegian competitive rower Birgit Skarstein, Australia’s rower Erik Horrie and Lithuanian goalball player Justas Pažarauskas have obtained 0.72, 0.62 and 0.07 percent of the votes respectively up until now.

On September 16, Nemati competed in the recurve women open competitions in the Chinese capital city of Beijing, and defeated her Turkish opponent Merve Nur Eroglu 6-2 in the final contest to be awarded the gold medal.

Chinese athlete Wu Chunyan got the bronze medal.

Later in the day, the Iranian pair of Nemati and Pouriya Jalalipour managed to finish third in the recurve mixed team open, and pocketed the bronze medal.

Italian contestants Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisan collected the gold medal. Thais Silva Carvalho and Francisco Cordeiro from Brazil scooped the silver.

The 2017 World Archery Para Championships kicked off on September 12, and finished on September 17.
