The election of President Donald Trump has so much to do with the resurgence of hate crimes and discrimination in the United States, says an activist.

“He [Trump] had brought racism out into the open again. So racist people who used to keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves, now feel emboldened and that is in large part result of his being elected,” Margaret Kimberley, with the Black Agenda Report, told Press TV in an interview on Sunday.

“However, I always caution that these people did not just appear after Election Day. They were always here. This is a profoundly racist nation, it always has been, but Trump has changed things somewhat and one of the things he has changed is he has just by becoming president, he has reignited this movement, the movement that ‘Black Lives Matter’ is so well-known for the movement against police violence and other forms of oppression in the country,” she added.
