Petrochimi Bandar Imam fails to seal final berth in FIBA Asia Champions Cup

Iranian professional basketball club Petrochimi Bandar Imam has failed to secure a berth in the final showdown of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) Asia Champions Cup, after it did not manage to overcome Al Riyadi of Lebanon in a semifinal encounter.

The Iranian team lost to the Lebanese squad 67-74 at the end of a fixture staged at the Chenzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in the south central Chinese city of Chenzhou on Friday.

Earlier, Petrochimi had overcome Chinese Taipei’s Taipei Dacin Tigers in the quarter-finals, and found a spot in the semifinal round.

Petrochimi Bandar Imam basketball team is scheduled to play against Astana Basketball Club of Kazakhstan in the match for third place on Saturday.

The 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup started in Chenzhou, China, on September 22 and will conclude on September 30.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup until 2002, is the Asian club championship for professional basketball. It is organized by FIBA Asia, and takes place once a year.
