Iranian professional basketball club Petrochimi Bandar Imam has posted its second win in a row at the preliminary round of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) Asia Champions Cup, defeating Mono Vampire basketball club of Thailand.

On Monday, the Iranian sportsmen notched up an emphatic 111-60 victory over the Thai squad in a Group A match staged at the Chenzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in the south central Chinese city of Chenzhou.

Petrochimi players started the game in a stronger fashion, and were able to preserve the tempo. They accumulated enough points to assert their style and claim the first quarter 26–19.

Mono Vampire players sought to score points and cut the deficit in the second quarter. Their Petro counterpart, however, were strong-minded not to give up, and clinched the quarter 21–18 at last.

Petrochimi Bandar Imam did not ease off the throttle in the third quarter, and continued to place the opposite team under pressure. The Iranians were off to a 30–14 lead.

The Iranian club ended its final quarter on a high note, and outscored Mono Vampire 34–9.

Earlier, Petrochimi had defeated Palestinian club Sareyyet Ramallah 108-45, but had slumped to a narrow 65-66 defeat against BC Astana of Kazakhstan in its opener.

Petrochimi Bandar Imam basketball team will face Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas of the Philippines in its last group stage fixture on Tuesday.

The 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup started in Chenzhou, China, on September 22 and will conclude on September 30.

Petrochimi Bandar Imam has been drawn in Pool A along with Kazakhstan’s BC Astana, Palestinian Sareyyet Ramallah, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas of the Philippines, and Thailand's Mono Vampire.

Pool B consists of Chinese China Kashgar, Chinese Taipei’s Taipei Dacin Tigers, Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Lebanon’s Al Riyadi and Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai of the United Arab Emirates.

The preliminary round of the tournament is played in a round robin format, with every team taking on its four opponents in its respective group.

The top four teams from each group will then advance to the quarter-finals.

The winners of the quarter-finals will progress to the semi-finals, while the losing teams in the quarter-finals will play 5-8 classification games.
