Some 30 secondary schools in Buenos Aires have been occupied by students sitting in to protest a series of education reform measures introduced by the city government.

The occupations began on August 29 and have slowly grown as more schools have been taken over and students march in the streets against the policy changes.

The most contentious issue for the student protesters is the implementation of mandatory internships with private companies.

The Buenos Aires city government says the reforms to curriculum and evaluation will correct a system that leaves students unprepared for the reality they face when they leave school.

The city government showed no signs of bending to students' demands with the Chief of City Government, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, telling local media on September 22, 2017 that the education reform policies will move forward.
