Mediterranean remains key route for refugees to enter Europe

The recent spike in the number of refugees rescued at sea while attempting to reach Italy via the Mediterranean Sea has led many to think that the migrant flow has again picked up. Meanwhile, hundreds of refugees have also been rescued in the Black Sea, off the Romanian coast, igniting fears that Turkish smugglers are opening up a new route for illegal entry into the European Union.
