Liverpool have booked their spot in the UEFA Champions’ League group stages after defeating Germany’s Hoffenheim 4-2 at Anfield to complete a 6-3 aggregate victory.
The Merseyside Reds, who entered the Wednesday encounter with a 2-1 lead from the first leg, produced a stunning attacking display and scored 3 beautiful goals in the opening 20 minutes.
Emre Can's deflected shot put them ahead after only 10 minutes and Mohamed Salah found Liverpool’s second some 8 minutes later by slotting in a rebound off the post. Can then scored his second and the Red’s 3rd as he volleyed in Roberto Firmino's cross at the back post, making it 5-1 on aggregate.
The visitors, however, pulled one back in the 28th minute but Firmino put the tie beyond doubt after the break as he made it 6-2 on aggregate with a fine low shot. The German side did not lose their spirit and pulled another one back through Sandro Wagner but that was as far as they could go as Jurgen Klopp’s men cruised into the Champions’ League group stage for the second time in 8 seasons.
