Bannon's fallout

This picture which was taken in late January, shows Donald Trump and his top advisors days after the billionaire businessman took charge of the White House. Seven months on, Trump and his Vice President Mike Pence are the only ones that still show up to work as every other official in the picture has either stepped down or been fired. In the latest high-level White House shake-up, Trump fired his chief strategist Steve Bannon labeled a white supremacist by critics. Bannon was seen as a driving force behind Trump’s nationalist agenda and helped the president garner the support of the alt-right during election. Bannon’s presence in the White House has been a contentious issue as several other competing power centers including Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner were at loggerheads with him.

Repercussions of US President Donald Trump’s response to last week protests in Charlottesville continue. Many believe that his response has already shaken his presidency unlike any of the other self-created crises that have rattled the White House during his seven months in office. Indications have now emerged that a growing number of politicians that were once considered as the president’s allies are expressing grave concerns about his competency. Interviews by the Associated Press with Republican politicians and party officials across nine states have revealed deeply held doubts about whether Trump has the self-discipline and capability to govern successfully.
