Chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces visiting Turkey

These are the headlines we are tracking for you in this episode of On the News Line:

High profile visit by Iranian chief of staff
Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran Mohammad Bagheri has paid a rare visit to Turkey,  the first visit by the head of Iran's military since the 1979 revolution. Why this visit now? One conclusion is that Turkey's policies toward Syria has failed, combined with its differences with the US due to the Kurdish issue, and its problems with NATO. General Bagheri met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the latest situation in Syria. It was announced that Turkey will carry out a number of activities with Iran to boost military cooperation.

Iraqi Kurds referendum
Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region is defiantly insisting on its plan to hold an independence referendum next month. The controversial plan has triggered warnings from regional countries and even the United States. The vote is scheduled for September 25. It comes at a time when Iraq is still engaged in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group and is a long way away from stability.
