FIBA Asian Cup: Australia grabs title after defeating Iran 79-56

Australia's national team has grabbed the Asian Cup for the first time in their maiden participation, after defeating reigning champions Iran 79-56 in the final showdown of the the continental tournament.

Australia were dominant from the outset on Sunday, leading 43-26 at the intermission. But Iran produced a staggering performance in the third, finishing the frame with a 17-13 edge.

The Aussies, however, found their rhythm again in the decider, pulling off a 10-1 run, to come out victorious.

Iran’s Hamed Haddadi who was as effective as ever earning 18 points for his side, was named the most valuable player of the new FIBA Asia Cup.
