Iran volleyball team loses to Thailand in straight sets at Asian championship

The national Iranian women’s volleyball team has lost to Thailand in its second fixture at the preliminary round of the 19th edition of Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in the Philippines.

On Thursday, the Persians faced the Southeast Asians in a Pool A fixture at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, and sustained a 3-0 defeat.

Iranian volleyball players did not produce convincing performances throughout the game, and ceded the sets 25-18, 25-12 and 25-16 to the Thai team.

The national Iranian women’s volleyball team is going to play against the Maldives in its third match on Friday.

The 19th edition of Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship opened on August 9 and will finish on August 17, 2017 in the Philippines. Matches are being held at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan and Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Muntinlupa.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is pitted against Chinese Taipei, the Maldives and Thailand in Pool D of the volleyball competitions.

Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and the Philippines are in Pool A.

Pool B consists of Australia, China and Japan. New Zealand, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are drawn in Pool C.
