Hundreds of people have gathered at an ancient temple in Greece to watch a partial lunar eclipse.
The full moon had a shadow cast on its southern hemisphere and acquired a reddish brown color that lasted two hours and slowly receded afterwards.
It was the second lunar eclipse of the year. The effect is generated when the sun, earth, and moon become aligned and the moon crosses the shadow projected by the earth, which lies between the moon and the sun.
It is opposed to a solar eclipse which happens when the moon aligns in front of the sun.
