Britain has hosted the annual gastropod games, widely known as the World Snail Racing Championships.

Over 150 snails participated in the event held in the village of Congham in Norfolk, eastern Britain. The Championships have been running since the 1960s and have become ingrained within the culture of the region.

The organizers bring the snails together on a circular table, surrounded by the local crowd. During the contest, snails race from the center of the circle to the outside.

The snail that emerges victorious is granted a silver cup stuffed with lettuce leaves.

In this year’s event, Larry the snail beat his lazy competitors to the finish line by covering the 33-centimeter course in just 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
