Trump and Merkel on a collision course

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday indicated she was on a collision course with US President Donald Trump over his controversial “America First” agenda. In a fiery speech to the Parliament, she indicated her talks with Trump would be difficult when they meet in Hamburg next week for the G20 summit of global leaders. The main themes of an expected Trump-Merkel clash are America’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and free trade.

France and the Rwandan genocide

The Rwandan genocide is widely known as the last genocide of the 20th century. It saw ethnic Hutu extremists slaughter some 800,000 people in just one hundred days in 1994. 23 years on, France’s largest bank is facing accusations of complicity in the genocide and war crimes.
