Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 09:00 GMT to 17:00 GMT, June 28, 2017.

US Interventionism
Tehran has denounced US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for his comments on changing the Iranian government. Iran has slammed the statements as brazen and interventionist. Iran’s representative to the UN, Gholamali Khoshroo has slammed the comments in a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He said Tillerson’s comments are a flagrant violation of the 1981 Algiers Accords, based on which, the US has pledged not to interfere in Iran's affairs under any conditions. Khoshroo has called on the world community to condemn Tillerson’s statements and urged the US to act responsibly. Tillerson said in a hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee that the U-S policy is to work toward support of elements inside Iran that would lead to a peaceful transition of government there.

Colombia Peace Deal
The rebels turned in the remaining 40 percent of their firearms on Tuesday. The disarmament is part of a peace deal with the government of Colombia. Some of the weapons will be molded into a monument for peace. Clashes between government troops and the rebels had taken the lives of over 200 thousand people in more than half a century before the peace agreement was signed.

Russia US Warning
Russian deputy foreign minister has warned the US against taking any unilateral action in Syria. Gennady Gatilov said the US assertions that the Syrian government may be planning a chemical attack complicate peace talks on Syria. He made the statements one day after the US officials claimed that Damascus may be preparing for a chemical attack. They also warned Syria that it will pay a very heavy price if the attack is carried out. Syria has denied the US claim. Back in April, Washington accused Syria of carrying out a chemical attack in Idlib Province and launched a missile attack against the country. President Bashar al-Assad called the chemical attack claim fabricated.

Iran Terror Anniversary
36 years ago this day, the Islamic Republic of Iran came under a terrorist attack, which killed a number of senior officials including Chief Justice Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti. As Saman Kojouri reports, the terror attacks against the Iranian nation, which continued into later years, made Iran a prime victim of terrorism in the world.

EU Russia Sanctions
The European Union has formally extended economic sanctions against Russia for another six months. EU leaders endorsed the move claiming that Moscow has failed to live up to its Ukraine ceasefire commitments. The sanctions, which target Russia's finance, oil and defense sectors, will run till January 2018. The European Council said the decision followed a summit briefing on the situation by French and German leaders Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel. The economic sanctions against Moscow were originally introduced in March 2014 over accusations of Russian involvement in the deadly crisis in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin has strongly rejected the accusations.

US Syria Allegations
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani has warned the US against launching new attacks on Syria. The top official was speaking a day after Washington accused Damascus of preparing to launch a chemical attack on militants and said Syria would pay a heavy price if it proceeded. Shamkhani says the US is playing with fire and any new attack would be in violation of Syria’s sovereignty. He stressed that Washington's unilateral action in Syria cannot go unanswered. The top security official noted that the US is trying to cover up the losses of terrorists by making such baseless allegations. Shamkhani noted that if the US is honest about its claims, it should give the information about Syrian chemicals to international inspectors so that an impartial side can verify the claims. Russia has also warned the US against any reckless steps in Syria.

US Travel Ban
The US Supreme Court ruling to reinstate part of President Donald Trump’s travel ban targeting citizens from six Muslim countries has sparked more reactions. Iran says it will take reciprocal action against the controversial measure.

Battle for Mosul
Iraqi forces have made fresh gains against Daesh terrorists in Mosul that brings them closer to taking full control of the city. The army captured two neighborhoods of Hadarat al-Sa’ada and Ahmadiya in the Old City area. They are located northwest of the historic Grand al-Nuri Mosque that Daesh destroyed last week. Terrorists still control the mosque’s grounds and about half of the last territory they run in the Old City. Iraqi forces say they are only a few days away from dislodging Daesh. It is estimated that up to 350 terrorists remain in the city. They are trying to slow the advance of Iraqi forces by laying booby traps and using bombers and snipers. The army launched an offensive to retake Mosul last October.
