Fresh strikes leave 30 dead in eastern Syrian village

In this file photo released by the US Air Force, fighter jets fly over northern Iraq as part of coalition airstrikes in Syria.

At least 30 civilians have been killed and dozens more sustained injuries in airstrikes purportedly targeting Daesh terrorists in Syria's troubled eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the aerial attacks hit the village of al-Dablan, located about 20 kilometers (13 miles) southeast of Mayadin town, early on Wednesday.

It was not immediately clear whether the air raids were carried out by the US-led coalition, said the observatory.

However, Syrian government officials blamed the coalition for the deadly strikes.

If confirmed, the deadly airstrikes would be the second in 48 hours launched by the US-led coalition in Dayr al-Zawr province.

On Monday, dozens of people lost their lives when a string of coalition strikes targeted a jail run by Daesh extremists in Mayadin, located some 45 kilometers (28 miles) southeast of the provincial capital of Dayr al-Zawr.

The observatory said the aerial assaults left 42 prisoners and 15 Daesh terrorists dead.

Over 200 Syrians killed in US-led raids on Mayadin

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 231 civilians have lost their lives in US-led aerial assaults against Daesh-held al-Mayadin between May 22 this year and June 28.

The UK-based monitoring group said the fatalities included 82 children in addition to 70 women.

The US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against what are said to be Daesh targets inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.

The military alliance has repeatedly been accused of targeting and killing civilians. It has also been largely incapable of fulfilling its declared aim of destroying Daesh.

Syria has been fighting different foreign-sponsored militant and terrorist groups since March 2011. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated last August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the crisis until then.
