Saudi raid on Yemen

There seems to be no end in sight to the Saudi attacks against defenseless Yemenis. Three people, including one child, were killed and seven others wounded in an air raid on a house in an area in northwestern Sa’ada province. Earlier, Saudi warplanes targeted a residential area of Ma’rib province, killing at least five people. Meanwhile, four Saudi soldiers were killed in retaliatory attacks by Ansarullah forces inside Saudi Arabia. Yemeni troops have routinely launched retaliatory attacks against the kingdom in response to Riyadh’s two-year war which has left over 12,000 Yemenis dead, and placed the country on the brink of a humanitarian crisis.

Mosul operation

The Iraqi military announces the capture of another neighborhood from Daesh terrorists in Mosul’s Old City. The Iraqi military command says it retook the neighborhood of al-Faruq. There are ongoing fierce clashes taking place in the Old City. Earlier, government troops repelled a major counter-attack by the Takfiri group. The terrorists deployed a large number of bombers to three districts west of the Old City. Iraqi officials say the affected areas were quickly brought under control. The terrorists have been cornered to about one-and-a half-square kilometers of territory in the Old City, the large major bastion where Daesh holds a presence. Iraqi forces have recaptured all other districts in Mosul.

UK’s May strikes deal with DUP

Britain's Conservative Party has clinched a deal with Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party or DUP. Prime Minister Theresa May has signed the accord with DUP leader Arlne Foster at Downing Street following several hours of negotiations. This despite fears that a deal could complicate talks to restore a government in Northern Ireland. The agreement would see the party from Belfast voting with the government to give May a working majority. The two sides held two-week talks. On June 8, the UK held elections that saw the Conservative Party lose its absolute majority.

Kashmir clashes

Indian security forces have engaged in clashes with protesters in the disputed Kashmir region. Clashes erupted as thousands of pro-independence demonstrators took to the streets in Indian-administered Kashmir following the Eid al-Fitr prayers. Indian forces used tear gas and pellet guns to confront the enraged protesters. In recent weeks, violence has flared up in the volatile region. On Saturday, one Indian soldier and two suspected pro-independence fighters were killed in an intense shootout on the outskirts of Srinagar. More than 68,000 people have been killed in Indian-administered Kashmir violence since 1989.

Russia criticizes US-led coalition in Syria

The Russian foreign minister has harshly criticized the US-led coalition in Syria, saying it is protecting al-Nusra Front terrorists operating in the Arab country. Lavrov said the US appears to have been protecting foreign-backed militants such as Nusra Front from aerial bombardment. During a press conference with his Ethiopian counterpart in Moscow, Lavrov stressed that the coalition’s move violates all international law. The top Russian diplomat also underlined the need to eliminate double standards regarding the fight against terrorism. Washington has recently come under severe criticism after American warplanes shot down a Syrian government jet near the Syrian city of Tabqa and a drone in the country’s south. Moscow has said the attacks were yet another sign that the United States is complicit in the acts of terror groups in Syria.
