US President Donald Trump is not under any investigation for obstruction of justice in a probe into his possible collusion with Russia, his attorney says.

Multiple reports surfaced last week, claiming that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s alleged  interference in the 2016 presidential election has expanded to include claims that Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey (pictured below).

On Friday, Trump himself tweeted that he was “being investigated for firing the FBI director by the man who told me to fire the FBI director.”

He was apparently referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a memo to denounce Comey and subsequently appointed Mueller (pictured below) to continue the probe.

Jay Sekulow, a Trump attorney who has surfaced recently to defend Trump, appeared on NBC's “Meet The Press” on Sunday to state otherwise.

“He's not afraid of the investigation — there is no investigation,” Sekulow said. "There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation."

“Let me be clear here,” said the Trump’s legal team member. “The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction."

He also explained that “the tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to The Washington Post.”

Sekulow (pictured above) also reiterated his stance by appearing on CNN, where he said, “That response on social media was in response to the Washington Post piece. It’s that simple. The president is not under investigation.”
