British Prime Minister Theresa May is caught in a political trap of her own making. Last week’s general elections in Britain quashed May’s dreams of boosting her parliamentary majority. Philippines crisis

The Philippines is in crisis. The army has been battling ISIL-linked terrorists in the city of Marawi in the south of the country over the past three weeks. Marawi is on the island of Mindanao in the Philippine and is of strategic value. President Rodrigo Duterte has declared martial law in that region to tackle the emergency situation. Almost all of the city’s 200,000 residents have fled the city. But so far the country’s army has been unable to contain the crisis and rout the terrorists.  But then came the surprising news: The US announced that it has sent military assistance to the crisis-hit country to battle ISIL militants.
