COVFEFE Act to preserve Trump tweets as presidential records

New legislation in the US House of Representatives is calling for classification of the US president’s social media postings, namely US President Donald Trump’s infamous tweets, as presidential records.

Illinois Democratic Representative Mike Quigley unveiled the Communications Over Various Feeds Electronically for Engagement (COVFEFE) Act on Monday.

COVFEFE  has the same acronym as a typo Trump made on Twitter last month while referring to the word “coverage.”

COVFEFE  will amend the Presidential Records Act by including "social media."

"President Trump’s frequent, unfiltered use of his personal Twitter account as a means of official communication is unprecedented. If the President is going to take to social media to make sudden public policy proclamations, we must ensure that these statements are documented and preserved for future reference. Tweets are powerful, and the President must be held accountable for every post," said Quigley in a statement.

GOPers surrounding Trump seek to undermine his tweets by labeling them not serious while the White House has clarified that social media should be taken as official communication from the president.

"The president is president of the United States, so they are considered official statements by the president of the United States,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Apart from COVFEFE, Quigley (pictured above) has proposed Making Access Records Available to Lead American Government Openness (MAR-A-LAGO) Act to force Trump make visitor logs at the White House and his resorts, including Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, available to the public.

The "covfefe" tweet was never officially acknowledged as misspelling.

"The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant," Spicer claimed.
