Iran under-23 wheelchair hoopsters fall to Canada in world championship

Iran national under-23 wheelchair basketball team has suffered its second loss at the 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Championship in Canada, going down to the hosts.

The Iranian physically-challenged sportsmen lost to Canada 59-67 in their third match of the tournament at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

Canada hit the court, hoping to redeem from loss against Australia the previous day. The host team recorded a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Iranian team, however did not capitulate and managed to claw their way out of the deficit to a four point lead, ending the half up 35-31.

The teams exchanged the lead throughout the third quarter. Iran was unable to match Canada’s intensity in the final quarter, and the hosts posted a 61-57 victory at last.

The 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Championship started in Toronto, Canada, on June 8 and will run through June 16, 2017.
