Poll: Americans say Comey more reliable than Trump
A great majority of Americans believe that former FBI director James Comey, who was fired by President Donald Trump, is more trustworthy than Trump, a new poll finds.
Forty-six percent, as opposed to 26 percent, say that Trump is less honest and trustworthy than Comey, with the remainder unsure, according to a HuffPost/YouGov poll.
Similar shares of the general public view the both men positively, with 38 percent for Trump, and 35 percent for Comey.
However, a larger share, 53 percent, views Trump unfavorably, while that share for Comey is just 33 percent.
The poll comes a few days after Comey testified at a congressional hearing session saying that he began documenting his meetings with US President Donald Trump, fearing the president might lie.
Comey appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday for the first time since he was fired in the midst of an ongoing investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, before and after Trump’s inauguration.
"Although the law required no reason at all to fire the FBI director, the administration then chose to defame me and more importantly the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly run, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader," Comey said.
"Those were lies, plain and simple," he told the committee.

The new poll shows that more people believe in Comey’s recollection of events.
Half say Trump asked Comey to pledge loyalty to him, as he testified, with just 15 percent believing Trump’s disavowal of having done so.
Seventy-one percent of those, who believe that Trump did ask for Comey’s loyalty, believe the question was inappropriate.
