Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix, by dominating Saturday's qualifying session in Montreal.

The British clocked the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit with a blistering time of one minute, 11.459 seconds, to equal his late Brazilian hero Ayrton Senna, with the 65th pole of his career.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Fettel, who leads Hamilton by 25 points after 6 races, qualified 2nd for Sunday's race, with the other Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas back in 3rd.

But there was also a big surprise for the Brit as he was presented with one of Senna's old helmets, a gift from the late Brazilian's family, for equaling his record. Hamilton’s 3rd pole in a row also equaled Michael Schumacher's record of 6.
