A Russian fighter jet has photobombed a group of US warplanes engaged in practice operations over the Baltic Sea.

According to a post on the US Department of Defense’s official twitter account, a Russian Su-27 fighter intercepted a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker military refueling aircraft during training exercise with two B-1 bombers and one B-52.

A picture of the encounter was also posted by the Department of Defense, which also noted that Russian maneuvers had been conducted correctly and were “deemed safe.”

The pictures were taken by a photographer onboard one of the US bomber planes.

The intercept was not the only of such maneuvers carried out by Russian aircraft. On June 6, Russian planes intercepted a B-52 bomber over the Baltic Sea, and escorted it away from Russian airspace.

The interceptions come amid Russia's increasing concerns over NATO's continued string of so-called training drills near the Russian border.
